Bromcom continue to benefit from schools switching MIS provider

Following our MIS Industry news article which included a press release about Bromcom winning a place in the 2025 Business Leader Growth 500 programme, our friends and colleagues at The Assignment Report published the article below in their August edition.

It’s with their kind permission we republish it below.

Bromcom Computers, the privately owned provider of a cloud-based MIS for schools, has reported an EBITDA of £4.9m for the year ended 31 December 2024 (2023: £3.1m), on revenue up 50% to £31.6m (2023: £21.1m). Excluding revenue from software development services of £7.3m sold to a related party in FY24 (2023: £5.5m), Bromcom’s core MIS business grew revenue 55% to £24.4m (2023: £15.7m).

Deferred revenue increased 41% to £11.6m at 31 December 2024 (2023: £8.2m) and the company had net cash of £3.7m at the year-end (2023: £4.7m).

The increase in core MIS revenue reflects the company’s success in winning contracts with multi-academy trusts and local authorities who are principally switching from SIMS. In 2024, Bromcom’s share of the MIS market in state schools in England increased two percentage points to 11% (2023: 9%) and in the current year to date has increased by a further three percentage points to 15% (see https://bringmoredata.blogspot.com). Measured by pupil numbers, Bromcom’s market share in state schools in England is even higher, currently 19%, up four percentage points from the prior year (2024: 15%).

The company is also providing its cloud-based school MIS platform to Northern Ireland’s 1,100 schools and other education settings and has secured five contracts with local authorities in Wales, most recently adding Cyngor Gwynedd to its roster of Welsh contracts with Wrexham Council (July 2024), Ceredigion (January 2025),  Rhondda Cynon Taf (February 2025) and Swansea Council (March 2025).

Overall, Bromcom’s MIS platform is currently supporting over 4,800 schools in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

The average monthly number of staff employed by the company increased 24% to 193 in FY24 (2023: 156), which Bromcom said reflects the increase in the number of schools adopting its cloud-based MIS platform and the scaling up of its delivery capability in readiness for growth moving forward. The company also engaged 69 contractors in FY24 (2023: 50).

Founded in 1986 by Ali Guryel, Bromcom launched the UK’s first cloud-based MIS for schools in 2011. Commenting on the outlook for the business, Ali Guryel said: “Bromcom is in a very strong position in terms of product and market positioning and is ready to maximise the opportunities that lie ahead, with an overall mission of becoming a leader in the MIS market in the coming years.
