Continuing our series of MIS product roadmaps, in this edition we focus on Compass.
Compass – rapid product development, but less public visibility of what comes next
Compass presents a slightly different challenge when trying to make a roadmap comparison.
We found a substantial amount of information about recently delivered product enhancements, but we could not identify a similarly detailed, publicly available forward roadmap giving release periods for future functionality.
Compass maintains a dedicated Product Updates section and continues to release enhancements to its UK MIS.
Among recent developments is its Seating Plans functionality.
Originally introduced in June 2025, this has subsequently gained drag-and-drop functionality, zoom controls and additional management tools. From June 2026, teachers have also been able to mark the register directly from their seating plan.
Compass has also refreshed its Resource Bookings functionality, providing a central mechanism for booking school resources such as rooms, devices, equipment and vehicles.
Other areas receiving development include wellbeing and behaviour recording through Chronicle. Its Body Maps feature, for example, allows staff to record physical observations associated with incidents or interventions and links this information with wider wellbeing, attendance and behaviour records.
Compass also highlights assessment and analytics through its Pulse functionality, providing schools with visual reporting and analysis of pupil performance data.
The company describes Compass as a single cloud platform bringing together student information, attendance, reporting, communications, payments, timetabling and finance, with more than 40 modules available across the broader product.

There is clearly active investment in the Compass platform, but from a procurement perspective we would like to see greater public visibility of its longer-term UK roadmap. Schools considering a move to Compass should ask specifically which functionality is committed for the next 12–24 months and which developments are aspirations rather than scheduled releases.
