When schools and Multi-Academy Trusts select an MIS, they are not simply buying the product that exists today. They are also, to some extent, buying into the supplier’s vision for what that platform will become over the next few years.
That makes the product roadmap an increasingly important part of MIS procurement.
Functionality that is missing today may already be scheduled for development. Equally, a feature described as “coming soon” may not arrive for months – or could change significantly before release.
WhichMIS? has therefore reviewed the latest publicly available roadmap information from four of the major suppliers currently competing in the UK schools MIS market: SIMS, Bromcom, Arbor and Compass.
The results reveal some significant differences, both in where suppliers appear to be concentrating their development effort and in how much visibility they provide to customers about what comes next.

Bromcom – continued expansion of the integrated MIS
Bromcom has long promoted the breadth of functionality available within its MIS and its latest roadmap continues that direction.
Its most recent publicly indexed roadmap is its 2026 Autumn roadmap, published in July 2026, which Bromcom describes as representing its broader vision and ambition for the year ahead.
Among developments identified in its 2026 roadmap are further enhancements to MyChildAtSchool (MCAS), its parent-facing platform.
These include a redesign of Clubs & Trips, new overview pages and improved management of membership and payments.
The Student App is also being refreshed with an updated interface and navigation.
Finance remains important
One particularly interesting development is Open Banking integration within Bromcom Finance.
The roadmap includes integrated bank-statement downloads together with automated transaction matching, intended to simplify reconciliation.
That reflects a broader competitive battleground within MIS.
Finance was once frequently treated as a separate system attached to the MIS. Increasingly, suppliers are attempting to bring finance, payments and operational administration into the same technology ecosystem.
Exams and classroom administration
Bromcom is also developing improvements to the way exam marks and grades are presented, making them more consistent across the MIS and available in additional reporting areas.
Recent releases demonstrate the continuing development of more detailed operational functionality too. For example, enhancements to Options allocation have introduced more sophisticated handling of student preferences, weighted subjects, class balancing and gender balancing.
Bromcom stresses that its roadmap remains driven by customer feedback and that priorities are reviewed regularly.

Bromcom’s direction continues to emphasise breadth and depth – adding functionality within the MIS rather than requiring schools to depend upon multiple additional products. Finance, parental engagement and operational school processes remain prominent priorities.
